Daitokuji (referred to as "Daitokuji-sensei" by most of the kids) is first presented to the viewers as the cheerful, carefree, and loving head of the Osiris Red dorm. He taught the dueling and alchemy class at Duel Academia (what they have to do with each other, we may never know), with the "assistance" of his cat, Pharaoh. He is very fond of his students, especially Juudai, and can see the potential that lies within each of them. He's serious only when he needs to be, and at all other times is a gentle, fun-loving teacher that nearly everybody looks up to.

Looking creepy.Once the Seven Stars arc rolls around, Daitokuji is one of the seven people whom are granted keys. For most of the arc, he sits out the duels and simply cheers the duelist on... but as more and more of the Seven Star assassins fall, his behavior begins to turn rather suspicious. Eventually he disappears entirely, which causes people to worry that he's been defeated by the seventh of the Seven Stars, the only one still remaining.

I wouldn't wanna run into HIM in a dark alleyway...As people continue their search for Daitokuji, Asuka hears the sound of glass breaking coming from her brother's room. She goes to his room, and inside, there is no Fubuki in sight, but instead a mark of alchemy. When it disappears, she hears footsteps outside, so she follows them to a mysterious person whom she assumes is one of the Seven Stars. She duels him and ends up losing, and she, along with her brother, goes missing. Later, Manjoume runs into the same person, dueling him and ending with the same fate.

OMG WHO COULD IT BE?!At this point, only one key remains: Juudai's key. Once the seventh assassin shows them the way, they wind up in his underground laboratory, and find a coffin, opening it to reveal none other than the mummified corpse of Daitokuji. Juudai, Shou, and Hayato are shocked, but the surprises don't end there. Once Juudai and the masked seventh assassin, Amnael, engage in a duel, Pharaoh comes in and begins rubbing up against Amnael's legs. Juudai wonders why he's doing it to a person he doesn't know, but then realization hits. Amnael removes his mask and reveals himself to be Daitokuji.

Probably the only time his eyes are actually OPEN... and for a good reason, too.Daitokuji tells Juudai his story. He once traveled around the world in search of the Philosopher's Stone (or, Sorceror's Stone for Americans), a legendary jewel that is said to be a staple of alchemy itself, with the ability to change metal into gold and so on and so forth. He applied his interest in Pegasus' game of Duel Monsters to his research in alchemy. However, the long journey for the Philosopher's Stone took a toll on his health until he faced a fatal disease. In order to transcend death, he created an artificial body, called a homunculus, and transferred his soul into it. However, since it was artificial, it began to decay. And now, before his inevitable death, he must obtain the power of the three legendary demons for the person who supported his research, and thus became the last of the Seven Stars. Using their power, it is apparently possible to create the Philosopher's Stone.

Still the same old Daitokuji, despite the creepiness.Juudai is furious. He thinks that all that Daitokuji has said and done for him was faked in order to get what he wanted. If that's the case, Juudai resolves to never forgive him for it. After a heartfelt duel in which Juudai realizes he has the power of his friends which he didn't have a year ago, Daitokuji is finally defeated, and gives his Emerald Tablet to Juudai, the book of alchemy he used to create the homunculus. He tells Juudai to prevent the oncoming disaster, and with that, his body and the mummified body crumble into dust. But before his soul can move on to the afterlife, Pharaoh, being the playful kitty that he is, opens his mouth wide and swallows Daitokuji's soul.

Waving goodbye for now...After Juudai stops Kagemaru from obtaining the power of the three legendary demons, Daitokuji remains in Pharaoh's stomach, unable to pass over. He reappears to encourage Juudai from time to time when he needs the support: once indirectly when Juudai discovers a card within the Emerald Tablet that Daitokuji left for him, and again when Juudai is organizing his deck for his duel to restore Manjoume White Thunder back to the way he was. In the latter occasion, Daitokuji (who is now a ball of light) explains his situation, that he now lives in Pharaoh's stomach and is unable to cross over to the afterlife, and then proceeds to help Juudai find the Ojama brothers back in the abandoned well. He thanks Juudai for helping and then returns to Pharaoh's stomach, probably to appear again eventually.
